The design of the Brazilian domestic satellite system - SBTS
Abstract
The Brazilian Domestic Satellite System (SBTS), which is scheduled to be put into operation early in 1985, will consist of two twenty-four channel satellites to be launched by the Ariane III rocket. An average growth of more than 25 percent in transponder usage is predicted for the first two or three years of operation of the domestic system, with emphasis on SCPC carriers. The satellites will be also used for data transmission, heavy routes employing TDMA techniques, alternative routes for terrestrial microwave links, distribution of educational radio and TV programs. The principal features of the Ariane III launch vehicle, the SBTS spacecraft, and the ground control station are discussed.
