User features and benefits of the TCTS STRATOROUTE 2000 service
Abstract
The STRATOROUTE 2000, a satellite-based business communications service to be provided by the members of the TransCanada Telephone System (TCTS), is described. The service is intended to provide a typical large or medium sized Canadian organization with a private networking capability, on an end-to-end basis, for its business communications throughout its widely dispersed locations. The features of service are described, including network service points, access extension, digital transmission capability, voice-band access, digital access, user control and monitoring capability, configuration control functions, surveillance functions, and network analysis and planning functions. Service benefits are listed and user applications are discussed. The TCTS approaches to user implementation problems with transmission delay, voice quality, PBX network capability, security, and customer network conversion are considered.
