Design of a 14/12 GHz SCPC earth station network for nation-wide remote telephony
Abstract
Design considerations for providing a fully interconnected network of low cost 14/12 GHz SCPC earth stations as part of a nation-wide switched telephone system are presented. The system concept utilizes a variety of earth stations including single subscriber terminals, multiple subscriber community terminals, gateway terminals providing trunks into the switched telephone network, and a central control facility (CCF) which provides overall supervision and control of the network. The system employs digital voice coding permitting efficient multiplexing of the voice and call processing/DAMA signalling information. A DAMA algorithm is described which facilitates single hop calls between any two parties in the network.
