The backward-facing step - Comparison of two algorithms for unsteady Navier-Stokes equations
Abstract
Two algorithms for temporal discretizations of the Navier-Stokes equations in the vorticity streamfunction form are discussed. One model, a conservative upwind scheme with second order corrections, is examined with the ADI method. An OCI scheme was also devised which incorporated an approximate factorization and time steps. Applications of the algorithms to diffusion-convection phenomena, solution of the Poisson equation and the vorticity equations are detailed. Emphasis is placed on using the techniques for simulating flows over backward facing steps. Results are presented for sample calculations of streamline plots and velocity profiles.
