An earth-orbiting ultraviolet sensor for ozone measurement
Abstract
Orbiting sensors used to measure atmospheric ozone by backscattered ultraviolet have previously used diffraction grating monochromators for wavelength discrimination. This paper describes a design using selectable optical interference filters to separate the required ultraviolet wavelengths. The device is smaller, less complex, and less expensive than earlier designs. The ongoing construction and testing of a prototype sensor is also described.
