Heterogeneous nucleation in multicomponent fuel droplets
Abstract
An experimental and analytical investigation into the feasibility of heterogeneous nucleation in a multicomponent slurry fuel droplet during combustion is presented. In the experimental investigation, an experimental apparatus has been constructed to measure the temperature at which heterogeneous nucleation on spherical particles and coal particles will occur in selected hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon mixtures. From this experimental data, the current heterogeneous nucleation equation for spherical projections will be verified or modified to predict heterogeneous nucleation on spherical particles and coal particles.
