Electron-optical systems in relativistic electron masers
Abstract
The results are presented of an experimental investigation of a method of resonant pumping in a linear electron beam in the presence of combined spatially periodical (wiggler) fields and uniform magnetic fields. The distribution of the emission from the beam through a series of radial slits is used to determine all the time averaged characteristics of the system. An illustration of the method is provided in the form of a photograph which shows the emission from a screen produced by the bombardment of a 500 keV electron beam with a current length of 0.5 kA, a duration of 100 ns, and a wiggler velocity of 0.4 c.
