Free-free electron transitions in the presence of an electric field and a laser wave
Abstract
The interaction between an electromagnetic wave and electrons localized in the space between a metal-vacuum interface and a blanking electric potential (a potential barrier) is examined theoretically. An expression for the probability of the electrons passing through the barrier as a result of multiphoton absorption is obtained from the solution to a series of integral equations. The feasibility of observing the effect experimentally is discussed.
