Coherent amplification of ultrashort pulses in activated crystals
Abstract
Coherent amplification of picosecond pulses in Nd:YAG and ruby at a temperature of 100 K is investigated. The main features of coherent amplification which distinguish it from incoherent amplification are observed. Alternating sign oscillations of the field envelope at the trailing edge of the amplified pulse, unrestricted pulse duration in relation to the amplification line width, and a doublet structure in the emission spectrum were found. Good agreement was obtained between the experimental and theoretical results.
