Abstract
Initial-boundary value problems in the theory of thermoelastic vibrations are considered along with mathematical developments regarding boundary layer theory during the last 25 years, the multimodal analysis of critical forces on tangentially loaded structures, the nonlinear transmission behavior of joints, the eigenvalue problem of discrete linear mechanical systems with weak damping and small gyroscopic terms, and restricted generic bifurcations. Attention is given to incremental formulation of the nonlinear theory of thin shells in the total Lagrangian description, geometrically nonlinear load calculation in the case of planar 'bending supporting structures', the stability analysis of thin elastic shells and catastrophe theory, the stability of equilibrium positions in critical cases according to Liapunov, a material model for the description of inelastic deformations, and the thermoelastic crack problem. Other topics explored are related to the influence of different boundary conditions on internal stress energy and fracture behavior of discontinuously inhomogeneous solid bodies, and the design of complex machine parts by means of statically admissible continuous stress fields.
