Numerical modeling of unsteady periodic flow of a viscous fluid in the wake of a cylinder
Abstract
The problem of incompressible viscous flow, that is uniform at infinity, past a circular cylinder is analyzed numerically. The analysis employs the method of decomposition in physical factors, and a generalization of this method to flows stratified by density is presented. The formation of internal waves and Karman vortex paths in the wake of the cylinder is demonstrated, in agreement with experimental data.
