The development of computation procedures for elliptical swirl flows
Abstract
Based on well known methods for the computation of two-dimensional flow fields with two velocity components, a computer code has been developed which enables the calculation of axially symmetric swirling flows. Starting from the known analogy of marching methods to solve the unsteady-state parabolic transport equation and iterative methods to solve the steady-state elliptic equation, a relationship between the time step and the relaxation factor has been derived which links the two methods. In this way the characteristics of the method have been greatly improved with respect to convergence.
