A study of the effect of mass loading on the shock environment
Abstract
The weight variations in mounted subassemblies have relatively little effect on the pyrotechnic shock environment at the mounting point. This is the so-called mass loading effect. A mechanical model which attempts to explain theoretically the mechanism of the mass loading effect is given. A drop test and a structural striking test are conducted to simulate the pyrotechnic shock. The experimental results agree well with the predictions of the model analysis. A local and an entire body shock environment of a system and their shock test specifications are briefly discussed.
