Traveling waves in a one-dimensional chain with nonharmonic reciprocity
Abstract
Traveling waves in a one-dimensional Lennard-Jones chain were studied by resolving a variance problem numerically. By integrating the motion equation numerically, the apporach was improved using the Poincare surface of section. Deviations were interpreted with the Floquet theory. Calculations were carried out for 3 and 12 particles. Up to a certain energy the waves are linearly stable; above this level they are linearly unstable (for three particles).
