Development of a small Multifunctional Ground Station (MGS) for satellite communication on 11/14 GHz
Abstract
Experiments on digital telephony (using separate carrier waves for each channel) and image telephony with 32 kbit/sec and 8.448 Mbit/sec transmission rates, were done using an MGS with a 3 m antenna. System aspects of digital satellite communication and requirements and development of a ground station were treated. An orthomode transducer, used for simultanous transmission and reception with one antenna, is discussed. Noise ratio, phase noise characteristics, and technical realization of the receiver chain are treated. Realization of the transmitter chain and the impact of nonlinear effects of traveling wave tubes on the system degradation are discussed. Experiments on analog TV-reception from the OTS were carried out.
