Development of a manufacturing procedure to produce cold rolling cylinders by deposing a high alloy steel layer on a normal steel cylinder
Abstract
High speed steel was sprayed by a plasma system on to normal steel cylinders. A double arc plasma system was adopted. The first arc ionizes the gas between the anode and a tungsten electrode, while the second is established between the anode and the cylinder. Cylinders of up to 315 mm diameter are manufactured. The results show a good surface quality and an improved life. The existence of microporosities remains a problem.
