A counterpart of Faxen's formula in potential flow
Abstract
An expression for the acceleration of a sphere in a potential fluid is derived in terms of the local incident flow field, without posing any restriction upon the latter. The expression is exact, i.e., the effect of all spatial derivatives of the incident velocity field is taken into account.
