The design and validation of software for dimensional metrology
Abstract
Computer-aided measuring systems for assessing mechanical components are discussed. Mathematical modeling of the measurement problem, in cases where the data can be regarded as accurate or possessing significant errors is reviewed. Direct and iterative methods, and numerical stability issues are considered. Advantages of modularization in the design of metrological algorithms and software are enumerated. For validation, aspects of black box testing relevant to metrological software are identified. Mathematical testing is introduced.
