Development of miniature laser Doppler anemometers

Miniature laser Doppler anemometers (LDA) based on optical waveguides were developed. The application of optical waveguides for the transmission of coherent radiation in this measuring method is discussed, emphasizing the connection between laser probe and laser unit. Development and construction of an LDA backscattering probe are described. The probe systems allow many central and peripheral measurements in techniques and environments previously excluded for safety, space, time, and financial reasons. The operation possibility with a single power supply unit is especially attractive.
