Polarization angles of linearly polarized antennas and radio waves in satellite communications
Abstract
It is necessary to calculate the polarization angles of antennas and radio waves for analyzing the mutual interference when a linearly polarized emission is used in satellite communications. A method for calculating the polarization angle has been developed. It is based on several coordinate systems appropriate for representing the polarization angle and on a series of coordinate transformations and of projections of vectors in coordinate planes. It is applicable to a variety of cases of practical importance. Comparisons are made with some existing methods applicable to special cases, and some numerical examples are given. A computer subroutine package that implements the developed method is also presented.
