An experimental investigation into the effects of plate eccentricity and elastic deformation on orifice meter accuracy
Abstract
The effect of orifice plate eccentricity on gas metering accuracy was examined since the international standard requires concentricities which are extremely difficult to meet. The results show that a substantial relaxation of the requirements can be made without significant increase in measurement uncertainty. The effect of elastic deflection of an orifice plate under differential pressure was measured and shown to cause an underregistration of flow, the magnitude of which agrees with theory. The study confirms that the theory can be used to minimize the metering errors due to lack of initial flatness and elastic deformation of the plate.
