Measurement of drop-size distributions with the aid of a scattered light particle size counting analyser
Abstract
For the experimental determination of drop size distributions produced by atomizer nozzles a special test apparatus was constructed. The measuring instrument employed was a further developed scattered-light particle size counting analyzer. This further development refers mainly to the correction of the boundary zone error which occurs with the usual devices based on this measuring principle. Since wide distributions were to be measured the range of measurement also had to be extended. The drop size distributions produced by atomizer nozzles differ locally in the spray beam. Using the example of the measurement results from a hollow-cone nozzle, this local dependence is explained and an indication given of the possibility of determining the overall distribution produced by the nozzle.
