Error and uncertainty
Abstract
Problems with using the terms error and uncertainty in metrology are reviewed. Difficulties arise when error is used to describe what comes after the + or - sign and also to describe totally different statistical concepts such as standard error of the mean. The use of the terms random and systematic uncertainty after + or - is recommended.
