Resistance and inductance calculations for helical flux compression generators
Abstract
Methods were developed to calculate the resistance and inductance of explosively driven helical flux compression generators. The coil radius, armature radius, and wire diameter of the generator must be constant, but the number of parallel paths in the coil is arbitrary and bifurcation of conductors is allowed. The inductance is calculated as a function of time in the stand alone computer code HFCGL. The results may be used as input to the Los Alamos railgun estimator (LARGE) code. Resistance calculations are performed in the subroutine HFCGR developed for use in the LARGE code.
