Optical technology for microwave applications. Conference held at Arlington, Va., USA, 1 - 2 May 1984.
Abstract
Recent advances in optical technology for microwave applications are discussed. Advances in wideband laser beam modulation and transmission techniques and applications are covered. The technology of optical controlling of microwaves and applications in phased array beam steering are addressed. Progress in components and subsystems for microwave spectrum analysis is discussed. Notable progress is reported in: (1) a 17 GHz bandwidth traveling wave electrooptical modulator, (2) a 2 GHz bandwidth acoustooptic spatial light modulator, (3) direct modulation of laser diode to 10 GHz, (4) technical progress towards high dynamic range microwave processors, and (5) many proposed uses of optoelectronics techniques for phased array problems.
