Abstract
Recent progress in the development of high-power lasers for manufacturing applications is examined in reviews and reports of experimental studies and industrial experience in the FRG and Austria. Sections are devoted to high-power lasers, laser optics and measurement techniques, and laser material processing. Subjects discussed include high-power gas lasers, high-power and high-energy pulsed lasers, computer simulation of a CO2 laser with folded resonator, measurement of laser-beam intensity profile during material processing, physical models and technology of laser gas cutting, comparison of electron-beam and laser technologies, and surface alloying during laser melting.
