Analysis of threshold effects during estimation of arrival time of optical signals
Abstract
The characteristics of the maximum likelihood (ML) method and the Bayes estimation (BE) method are determined for a quadratic loss function with allowance for anomalous errors. The expressions obtained for the characteristics of the ML and BE methods make it possible to choose between these methods depending on the accuracy requirements imposed on the estimation of the time of arrival of optical signals.
