Novelties in design of instruments for measuring high ac voltages
Abstract
Two novel principles are proposed for measurement of high a.c. voltages with available instruments. Firstly, capacitive resistive dividers are to be built with gaseous dielectric capacitors rather than solid-dielectric ones so as appreciably to lower the temperature coefficient of capacitance and weaken the frequency dependence of capacitance. For the calibration and checking of a.c. high voltage instruments, a novel electrostatic electrodynamic combination comparator is developed which can be assembled in the laboratory with standard voltammeters. Its operating principle rests on the equality C V = C I during balance (V - a.c. voltage applied to the electrostatic mechanism; I - current in the electro-dynamic mechanism; C ,C - design constant of the two respective electromechanical systems) so that C /C = R and V = IR.
