Synthesis of algorithms for the detection of pulsed signals on a background of range-nonstationary passive noise

Algorithms are synthesized for the deteection of signals on a background of extended noise having dissimilar unknown correlation properties in different range elements. These algorithms take into account the spatial extent of passive radar noise, in contrast to the case when the targets occupy only a single range element. In the synthesis, the noise within a single resolution element is approximated by autoregression processes. The development of a corresponding noise-suppression process is discussed.
