Possibility of using the existing method for measuring the specular-reflection coefficients of millimeter waves in conditions of abnormally high refraction
Abstract
An analysis is made of the data concerning the measurement of the specular-reflection coefficients of 8.6-mm waves from the sea surface on a path 7.2 km long. It is shown that, in conditions of abnormally high refraction, the estimates obtained from data on the interference structure of the field are lower than those obtained in standard-atmosphere conditions. It is concluded that the Gaussian model can be used to determine with sufficient accuracy the depth of millimeter signal fading on sea paths not shorter than 7 km.
