Diffraction of electromagnetic waves by a lattice of cylindrical semiconducting rods in a plane dielectric layer
Abstract
A set of simple linear equations is obtained for determining the constant of electromagnetic-wave propagation along a lattice of parallel semiconducting rods arranged in a plane dielectric layer parallel to the boundary surfaces. The finite thickness of the rods (their diameter amounting to several tenths of the wavelength) is taken into account. The dependence of the propagation constant on the parameters of the lattice and the dielectric layer is determined, and an analysis is made of the conditions of the excitation of the system by a plane electromagnetic wave incident at an arbitrary angle. Relationships for the transmission and reflection coefficients are presented for several cases of practical interest. The relevance of the results obtained to microwave technology is stressed.
