Anomalies of backscattering by large-scale inhomogeneities
Abstract
An analysis is made of the anomalous increase of the power of a received signal as the aperture of the receiving antenna increases in the case when backscattering occurs on statistically isotropic large-scale inhomogeneities. This effect is anomalous as compared to backscattering by small-scale inhomogeneities and can lead to the violation of the small-angle approximation even for a narrow pattern of the receiving antenna. It is noted that the backscattering effect can be used to sound the characteristic dimensions of large-scale scattering inhomogeneities by identically oriented spaced receiving and transmitting antennas.
