Relativistic synchrotron oscillator using resonant scattering
Abstract
Theoretical and experimental results are presented concerning two-frequency relativistic oscillators based on resonant scattering, with synchrotron radiation of higher harmonics of the pump signal in the millimeter range. Experimental results, on a high-current electron accelerator where a microwave power of up to 20 MW was obtained at a wavelength of 4-6 mm, agree well with theoretical results. High-power synchrotron radiation was generated in the mm-range in a cyclotron-resonance maser/electron cyclotron maser in the case of a relatively weak level of the pump signal. In addition, the mechanism of stimulated resonant scattering of the contrawave with extraction of a mm-signal at the output is investigated for combined cyclotron resonance maser/electron cyclotron maser/backward wave tube.
