Calculation of the linear attenuation of ultrashort waves in the case of superrefraction
Abstract
Formulas are derived for calculating the linear attenuation of ultrashort waves in the troposhere in the case of superrefraction (i.e., in the presence of a near-surface waveguide). The effectiveness of these formulas is illustrated by numerical results; the linear attenuation calculated from the proposed formulas is compared with the 'exact' values. It is shown that the proposed formulas are sufficiently accurate; these formulas reach their greatest accuracy near the critical wavelength and make it possible to investigate radiation capture in the waveguide channel.
