Accuracy of the measurement of the angular coordinates of several sources by means of an antenna array
Abstract
Digital simulation is used to compare the accuracy with which the angular coordinates of two signal sources can be estimated on the basis of 'statistical' (maximum likelihood) and 'deterministic' algorithms. The study introduces the concept of a likelihood function modified for estimating angular coordinates. It is shown that the accuracy achieved by the two algorithms is practically the same, but that the realization of the maximum likelihood algorithm requires considerably more machine time.
