Gauge fixing, infrared divergences and confinement
Abstract
The generating functional in which the residual gauge freedom has been broken is related to the conventional generating functional for QED in arbitrary dimension. Closed expressions which relate ordinary N-point Green function to N-point Green functions in the different gauges are derived. The leading logarithmic behaviour of the electron propagator in three dimensions is thus obtained. It is argued that one should not ascribe much importance to the infrared behaviour of the fermion propagator in the context of confinement.
