Deformation and stability of drops and bubbles in an electric field
Abstract
The stability of spheroidal drops and bubbles with respect to deformation under an electric field is analysed by considering the free energy. Instability for drops occurs when the permittivity and aspect ratio exceed certain critical values. For bubbles, a minimum energy configuration is always possible.
