Relativistic Corrections to the Masses and the Magnetic Moments of the Ground State Baryons, in the Quark Model.
Abstract
In the present work we calculate the masses and the magnetic moments of the 18 ground state light baryons, including the relativistic corrections of order 1/c('2). We adopt the quark model of baryons, and describe the short distance strong interaction of quarks (within a hadron) as a single massless vector gluon exchange. The large distance behavior of the same interaction is then accounted for by the introduction of a harmonic-like confinement. Both parts of the internal potential are taken to have 1/c('2) relativistic corrections.(' )The external electromagnetic interaction(' )(with a uniform, constant and weak(' )B radiation field) is studied, and the baryon moments are(' )defined and calculated,(' )in perturbation theory. The need for quark anomalous magnetic moments is pointed out, in order to obtain good agreement with experiment. In absence of the external field, the predicted baryon masses are also examined, and compared with experimental values.
