Fluid vibrations in elastic containers
Abstract
Numerical calculation methods are derived for annular containers of arbitrary cross-section and for containers filled with compressible or incompressible fluid. Wave formation at the fluid surface is ignored, and a simplified mechanical calculative model is employed for the elastic walls. A Fourier series development in the circumferential direction leads to a two-dimensional model and very compact systems of equations which permit individual influences to be very economically studied. Analytical solutions are given for a few special cases in order to check the developed procedure. Eigenshapes and eigenfrequencies can be determined for containers filled with compressible or incompressible fluids. It is shown that the influence of compressibility on the dynamic behavior of an elastic container is not significant. Different storage conditions for the elastic wall can be taken into consideration. Pressure-time histories for two different bubble models are calculated for the special case of a fluid-filled container excited by a collapsing vapor bubble.
