Radiation patterns of a pyramidal horn antenna
Abstract
The theory of the far-field radiation pattern of a pyramidal horn antenna is presented. Methods to determine the theoretical radiation pattern of a pyramidal horn antenna include the following: (1) rigorous analysis; (2) aperture methods; (3) equivalence principles; (4) quasi-pyramidal or spherical sector horn approximations; and (5) edge diffraction techniques. Theoretical calculations are compared with experimental measurements for two pyramidal horn antennas. Approximations, assumptions and other sources of error are listed and discussed.
