Emission characteristics of gyrotrons with pulsed solenoids
Abstract
The results of measurements of the emission spectra of gyrotrons emitting frequencies up to 500 GHz at power levels over 100 kW with pulses lasting up to 100 microsec are reported. Separate trials featured either a sinusoidal magnetic field pulse (SMF) or a circuit-based magnetic pulse. Besides spectra, data were also recoded regarding the efficiency, microwave output power and wavelength of the outputs. It was found possible to generate microwave pulse lengths equal to the magnetic field pulse length. The SMF configuration was accurate enough to recommend investigating its application as a probe for performing plasma diagnostics.
