Excitation of instability waves by a localized vibrator in a boundary layer
Abstract
The excitation of instability waves by a localized vibrator in a boundary layer is investigated analytically using the results of an earlier study (Tumin and Fedorov, 1983). The amplitudes of the generated instability waves are calculated for the Mach number range 0.2-0.8. It is shown that amplitudes of the vibrating surface as small as 1 micron are sufficient to generate instability waves with initial amplitudes of 0.01 percent which can lead to the laminar-turbulent transition.
