Transverse effects in the bistable operation of lasers containing saturable absorbers
Abstract
The hysteresis curve characteristic of the output of a laser that contains a saturable absorber has been calculated from a simple model. The calculation moves beyond the simple plane-wave case and includes the effects of a transverse-mode, finite transverse gain-width and diffraction. All results are obtained in closed form.
