Microdomains observed at the ferroelectric/paraelectric phase transition of barium titanate
Abstract
Direct evidence for the occurrence of microdomains at the ferroelectric/paraelectric phase transition of barium titanate has been obtained by in situ electron microscopy of the transition. The microdomain behavior is discussed. Attempts to establish systematic relationships between microdomain size and/or fluctuation frequency and temperature were inconclusive. A tentative interpretation of the structural mechanism of the transition is proposed.
