Low-noise oscillator design. II - Choosing devices for quiet oscillators
Abstract
The second part of a three part review of oscillator design improvements is presented. Several different oscillator topologies are considered, including ungrounded, Seiler, Pierce (common emitter), and Colpitts topologies. Recommendations are made as to how to select a low-noise oscillator in order to simplify the task of coupling a low-noise transistor to a resonator. Techniques for further lowering noise such as power tapping from the V3 node is also discussed. Several wiring schemes for the different oscillator topologies are provided.
