Parametric methods in free convection
Abstract
Heat transfer by free convection on a vertical surface with a variable wall temperature is investigated with emphasis on various parametric methods yielding generalized characteristics of the process. Universal equations for calculating parametric functions are derived, and methods for solving these equations using different approximations are discussed in detail. The effect of various factors on the accuracy of the methods proposed here is examined, and a method characterized by the highest convergence rate is singled out. Examples are presented which demonstrate the usefulness of parametric methods in solving practical engineering problems.
