Preturbulence (Laminar-turbulent transition flows)
Abstract
The effect of the initial turbulent front, roughness, and wall temperature on the laminar-turbulent transition in flows along a plate is examined from a unified standpoint. An analysis is made of the factors responsible for a reduction in drag coefficient and longitudinal components of velocity fluctuations at the wall of straight circular pipe with a longitudinal magnetic field and in an annular channel with a radial magnetic field. Another problem discussed is a reduction of the torque in annular Couette flow in a coplanar magnetic field. In all cases, good agreement is obtained with experimental data.
