Identification of 3A 0729+103 with an intermediate polar-type cataclysmic variable.
Abstract
On the basis of the Einstein Observatory IPC position the authors identify the X-ray source 3A 0729+103 with a newly-discovered intermediate polar-type cataclysmic variable having a hard X-ray spectrum and showing evidence of low energy absorption. Detailed optical photometry and time-resolved spectroscopy, and X-ray variability studies, reveal the system to be similar to H2252-035. It has a spin-related period of 15.2 min and an orbital period of 3 hr 14.1 min in the optical photometry but there is no evidence of a beat period between these two.
