The X-ray spectra of galactic-bulge sources.
Abstract
Eight galactic-bulge sources (GBS) are characterized on the basis of X-ray spectra obtained with Experiment C of Ariel V at various times during 1975-1978. The data are presented in graphic and tabular form and discussed in detail. Six GBS are found to be reasonably described by single-thermal-bremsstrahlung or power-law models, with temperatures ranging from 4 to 9.5 keV, spectral indices from 2 to 4, and H column densities from 5 x 10 to the 20th to 1 x 10 to the 23rd/sq cm. Possible explanations for the anomalous nature of the other two GBS are considered: a circumstellar feature in GX17 + 2 and Comptonization in GX9 + 9.
