Large cross-section electron beams

Consideration is given to the physical problems and technological applications of high-energy electron beams with large cross-sections. An analysis is given of the general requirements for such a system and the methods for its construction. The structural design of a typical device is described, and the characteristic electron sources necessary for the large cross-section of the beam are discussed including the use of thermionic emission, explosive emissions, and various gas discharges. A survey of practical applications and perspective uses of large cross-section electron beams is presented.
